At the Moulin Rouge:  The Dance, 1889-1890.   Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec was among the first customers of the Moulin Rouge, a Montmartre nightclub boasting nightly performances of the cancan (or chahut, a French dance involving a series of titillating high kicks). Lautrec began this canvas—one of the largest and most ambitious of his career—shortly after the venue opened in October 1889. A handwritten inscription on its back, probably by Lautrec, identifies the subject as "the training of the new girls by Valentin ‘the Boneless.’" A nightclub star renowned for his flexibility, Valentin is depicted as a slender hatted figure with pointed toes and rubbery legs facing a female partner whose animated kicks reveal her red stockings and frothy white petticoats. Highlighting an informal moment between performances, the painting offers a survey of the club’s clientele and its scintillating entertainment. It was purchased by the owners of the Moulin Rouge, who hung it above the bar.  You can now view the original at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

You will receive a 100 gram skein of Aussie Extra Fine Sock with Nylon (a squishy, but versatile fingering weight yarn) or Aussie Extra Fine DK with Nylon and 2 coordinating 20 gram mini skeins (fingering or DK, depending upon your full skein), plus a stitch marker that coordinates with set's theme.  This is a great buy and a fun way to reward yourself with a little surprise gift.  If you prefer this in Sturdy Sock, just order it in Aussie Extra Fine Sock with Nylon and add "Sturdy Sock" in the notes and we will substitute it for you.  We now have Sturdy Sock minis to dye.

About the yarn:

Not just for socks or hats.  These bases are versatile; they're nice and soft, but tough.  If not for socks, a hat, a one and  almost 1/2 skein wonder shawl/bandana... or just add to your stash and keep to use for colorwork on a sweater.  Be aware, that this colorway is not intended to be repeated.

Sock/Fingering weight 4 ply Superwash 19.5 micron Extra Fine Australian Merino 85%, Nylon 15%

Full Sock Weight:  Approximately 100 grams/400 meters or 3.5 oz./437 yards

Each Mini Skein Sock Weight:  20 grams/80 meters or 87 yards (2 are included)

Recommended needle size 2.5 mm - 4 mm

Gauge (stockinette) 28 stitches x 36 rows over 10 cm/4 inches on 3.25 mm (US 3) needles

DK Set: 

Please hand wash in cold water and lay flat to dry for best color retention.  Dyes may bleed slightly on initial washing.  Always test your gauge swatch for dyes bleeding when combining colors.
